Shafik Sachedina

In 1950, Shafik Sachedina was born in the small but beautiful Dar-es-Salaam Tanzania. When Sachedina began his education, he moved to England. Not too long after, he became a British National. Throughout his entire undergraduate education, he attended the University of King’s College. He then went on to the University of London, to study at Guy’s Hospital Medical and Dental School in 1975. It was here where he acquired his DDS (Dental Surgery).

Once Sachedina finished his studies, he began practicing dentistry in England for many years. After he practiced as a dentist for a while, he went on to work more with the logistics of health care. Having the background as a practicing dentist gave him a fresh or uncommon mindset when it came to the interworkings of healthcare. He first began working at the Aga Kahn in France and Jamati Institutions as a volunteer. While volunteering at these institutions, he became the Head of the Department at Jamati Institutions. At Aga Kahn, Shafik Sachedina was in charge of coordinating activities and programs for the institutions in the Ismaili community. He also worked with others on the Development Network programs, (ADKN) such as the institutions in Central Asia. Sachedina also holds other positions, such as working for the Ismaili Imamat, Chairman of FOCUS Humanitarian Assistance International Coordinating Committee, and a member of the Ismaili Leaders’ International Forum. Prior to all of these astounding positions he holds, he has done various volunteer services and served as the President of the Ismaili Council in the United Kingdom.

More recently, Shafik Sachedina worked at the Institute of Ismaili Studies on the Board of Governors. After that, and currently, he sits as the Joint Chairman at Sussex Healthcare. Sussex Healthcare is a company that focuses on providing care to families in Sussex County in South England. Shafik Sachedina made his focus on improving the lives of those in a region that meant a lot to him. Instead of staying “holed up” in his surgical room he went out to the community to make a difference and did an amazing and astounding job doing so.
