How Anthony Petrello Gives Back
Many of us tend to see the wealthy as elitist or somehow corrupt, obtaining their wealth through less than desirable methods. Sometimes this can be the truth but not even remotely with the case of Anthony Petrello, CEO of Nabors Industries, one of the leading oil and natural gas drilling companies.Anthony comes from a very humble beginning, his parents were not wealthy and he grew up in Newark, New Jersey. He did not receive any special treatment or private education. He has always been fueled by a passion for helping others and learning all that he can.The neighborhood he was raised in is well known for having a strong work ethic and high moral values.
A place where honorable actions are lauded and lying and dishonesty are reviled. This upbringing ensured that Tony would always have strong moral values. Petrello began by obtaining as much information and education as he could from his under-funded public school before his hard work would pay off in the form of a full scholarship to Yale University. He began his academic career in the world of advanced mathematics but somewhere along the line his interests changed and he finished his education at Harvard Law School. After completing his education he married his college girlfriend, Cynthia and held several jobs before coming to work at Nabors Industries. It took him almost 30 years of hard work before he was elevated up through the ranks to become the CEO.
Since becoming the CEO of Nabors Industries, Tony has not only been among the top paid CEOs in the country but he has also donated millions upon millions of dollars to various charities, including the Texas Children’s Hospital and the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute.Additionally, after the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey, the destroyed homes and businesses, Anthony gave back to the communities as did many of the employees of Nabors, working hard to help rebuild and restore. After a large fundraiser that amassed nearly $200,000, Tony matched those funds and named it the Nabors Disaster Relief Fund. The on-site kitchen at Nabors Industries was also hard at work, preparing hot meals three times a day for the community members devastated by the Hurricane.
